Erin Brooks' backhand attack led to a day's best 9.43 with fellow lower seed standouts Luana Silva and Bettylou Sakura Johnson taking control. Plus, men's top contenders faced woes of their own with wildcard Morgan Cibilic taking out World No. 2 Ethan Ewing as the remaining Round of 32 heats await.
